Sorondo out for eight weeks

Charlton have confirmed that defender Gonzalo Sorondo has broken a bone in his foot.

Charlton defender Gonzalo Sorondo faces up to eight weeks on the sidelines after it was confirmed he has broken a bone in his foot.

The Uruguay international, on loan at the Valley from Internazionale, suffered the injury in a tackle with Cesc Fabregas during the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Boxing Day and scans revealed the extent of the damage earlier this week.

It is the latest misfortune to strike the 26-year-old since his move to the Addicks. He missed the opening three matches of the season through suspension and then sustained a hamstring injury.

The London derby with Arsenal was his first Premiership appearance of the season, but he is not expected to play again until March.

"Sorondo is going to be out and it's something we're very unhappy about," said boss Alan Curbishley.

"He has fractured his foot as a result of Fabregas' tackle and he's looking at between six and eight weeks out.

"He's been very sore ever since the tackle - too sore to get near it to be honest - but after the Everton game we had it scanned and it revealed that he has picked up a fracture."
