Gerald Asamoah is set to sign a new deal with the Bundesliga outfit Schalke.

German international Gerald Asamoah is set to sign a new deal with Schalke.

The 27-year-old former Hannover star looks certain to secure a new contract that will keep him in Gelsenkirchen until 2008.

"I am looking forward to continuing my career at Schalke. It is my club and I've got a lot to thank them for," he declared. 

Meanwhile Danish international Christian Poulsen has asked the club for more time as he considers signing a new long-term deal.

The 25-year-old is out of contract in the summer and Villarreal are believed to be interested in securing his services.

Poulsen, who has made 21 appearances this term scoring two goals, is now expected to make a decision on his future at the end of January.
