Bolton swoop for Jansen
Bolton have signed former Blackburn striker Matt Jansen on a six-month contract.
Bolton have signed former Blackburn striker Matt Jansen on a six-month contract with the player available to make his debut against Rovers in Saturday evening's PremPlus clash.
Jansen was released from his Ewood Park contract at his own request having failed to re-establish himself at Rovers following a motorcycle accident in the summer of 2002.
Manchester City had declared their interest in the former Carlisle and Crystal Palace striker but Jansen turned down the opportunity to train with Stuart Pearce's side this week.
It has since transpired that Bolton manager Sam Allardyce had been in touch with Jansen's representatives and the player may now be set for a sensational Ewood Park debut for his new employers.
Allardyce, who is a past master at resurrecting flagging careers, was delighted with the signing and now hopes to reinvigorate the career of the one-time England hopeful.
"Matt has great potential, even though he hasn't been involved with Blackburn of late and I do believe he has the right qualities to resurrect his career here at The Reebok," he told the club's official website.
Jansen is Allardyce's second signing of the transfer window following the capture of Lyn goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi.
