Real Sociedad striker Darko Kovacevic has suffered a tear of his Achilles tendon.

Real Sociedad striker Darko Kovacevic will miss the rest of the season after breaking down in training on Monday.

The former Juventus and Sheffield Wednesday man suffered a tear of the Achilles tendon in his left leg.

The news is a bitter pill to swallow for Kovacevic who was taking part in a training match as part of the final stages of his rehabilitation from an operation on the same tendon.

The club have revealed that the 32-year-old will undergo immediate surgery to correct the problem.

With fellow striker Nihat Kahveci poised to leave the Spaniards in the January transfer window, Sociedad are thankful for the signing of Dane Morten Skoubo who will partly replenish the club's striking stock.
