Carlisle duo clear up confusion

Karl Hawley has cleared up the confusion regarding who got the matchball.

Karl Hawley has cleared up the confusion regarding who got the matchball after Carlisle United's convincing win against Boston United on Wednesday night.

Michael Bridges was the hat-trick scorer in the 5-0 romp, even though the stadium announcer declared that his deflected free kick was strike partner Hawley's goal.

United's top scorer was happy to put the record straight after the game.

"I wasn't trying to claim it," he told Sky Sports News. "I joked about it with Michael that I'd got a touch but I didn't get a touch.

"The announcer gave it to me but it wasn't mine."

Bridges felt Hawley should not have been so greedy in the first place, as he has already bagged two trebles this term.

"There's no mystery," said the former Sunderland and Leeds forward.

"I've taken a free kick, it's taken a deflection off one of their defenders, then the announcer gave it to Karl.

"Thankfully, it's gone down in the referee's book with my name down.

"He's had two already this season so it's nice to share them about."
