Copa Del Rey round-up

Real Madrid qualified whilst the game between Valencia and Deportivo was abandoned.

Real Madrid secured their passage to the Copa del Rey semi-finals with a 1-0 win over Real Betis, whilst Espanyol eased past Cadiz to join them in the last four, and the game between Valencia and Deportivo was cancelled in controversial circumstances.

Los Merengues were already in possession of a 1-0 lead following Antonio Cassano's strike last week, and outplayed their opponents, and holders of the cup, at the Bernabeu.

Brazilian star Robinho, on his 22nd birthday, sealed the win just before half time with a neat finish, but Madrid could have added further strikes as Cassano, Cicinho, Julio Baptista and Thomas Gravesen all had good openings.

A dramatic course of events saw the second leg between Valencia and Deportivo abandoned after an official was struck with a missile.

After Carlos Marchena had been dismissed after just eight minutes, Valencia looked to have pegged back their 1-0 deficit from the first leg when David Villa found the net.

However just moments after the opener, the referee's assistant was left bleeding on his hands and knees after being struck by an object.

As a result the players were taken off the field by referee Carlos Megia Davila and the game was cancelled in a development that is sure to have repercussions for the guilty party.

Espanyol matched their 2-0 first leg result against Liga rivals Cadiz as two second half goals saw them safely through.

Jofre Mateu was the hero as he netted on 72 minutes then doubled his tally just four minutes later from the penalty spot.
