Preston have completed a deal for Southampton striker Brett Ormerod pending a medical. The 29-year-old hit-man has failed to ever really establish himself on the South Coast since a £1.75 million move from Blackpool in 2001 and will now move to Deepdale on a free transfer.
Ormerod enjoyed a prolific introduction to professional football at Blackpool, having made the breakthrough later than most but at Southampton has plundered just 19 goals in 114 appearances.
Last season saw Ormerod enjoy loan spells at both Leeds and Wigan and he has now completed a permanent switch away from Southampton after concurring on a three-and-a-half year deal.
Having sold Theo Walcott to Arsenal and Nigel Quashie also looking to be heading for the St Mary's exit door, Ormerod looks to be the latest player to leave in a cost-cutting exercise at Southampton.
