Milan defender Jaap Stam has explained the reasons behind his decision to move to Ajax in the summer.The Holland international is heading back to his homeland at the campaign's close due to family commitments.
Prior to the close of January's transfer window speculation was rife as to whether Stam would return to Holland but it has now been confirmed that he will be moving to Amsterdam.
Stam has thanked Milan for allowing him to return home, with the player looking forward to playing in the Eredivisie for the first time since leaving PSV Eindhoven for Manchester United.
''I want to end the season here and give my support,'' said Stam.
''There are a few months left and I want to help my team-mates win. I have parents who don't feel good and I want to be closer to them.
''I'm happy Milan gave me this possibility. They asked me also if I wanted to stay for another year.
''Anyway, I want to confirm that I always felt well at Milan and that the reason for my choice is exclusively bound to my family.''
