Nigeria coach hails Kanu

Nigeria coach Austin Eguavoen has paid tribute to striker Nwankwo Kanu.

Nigeria coach Austin Eguavoen has praised striker Nwankwo Kanu for his performances in the African Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles have sailed through the group stages of the tournament in Egypt, winning all three of their games, but have been indebted to Kanu's contributions as a substitute on each occasion.

The West Brom star has been brought on with the score at 0-0 in all three games, but the impact he has consistently made has impressed Eguavoen.

"We are proud of Kanu and what he has brought to this team," he enthused.

"At Ajax and even at his present club West Brom, he comes on from the bench and turns games around. We are happy he has been doing the same for his country."

Kanu's impressive displays have led many to call for his inclusion in the starting eleven in the quarter finals, but the 29-year-old is happy to continue in his super sub role if he has to.

"The coach picks the team and whatever role he wants me to play I will. I have always played for the team," he told Kick Off.
