Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo has been given a one-match European ban.

Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo has been given a one-match European ban and fined by Uefa.

The former Sporting ace was banned for gesturing to Benfica's fans in The Red Devils' loss on December 7 last year.

Ronaldo was unhappy with the treatment he received at Stadio da Luz and raised his middle finger at the home fans after being substituted.

Uefa were unhappy with Ronaldo's actions and handed him a £4,000 fine and a one-match ban, of which he has till Thursday to lodge an appeal.

With United already out of European competition this term, Ronaldo will serve out his ban in the 2006/07 season.
