Gravesen hits back at critics

Thomas Gravesen has dismissed criticism of him in the Spanish press as the war of words continued after his outburst against diving last week sparked outrage. The Denmark international has been attacked for his physical style once again after he kicked out at Eduardo Costa during Real Madrid's 4-0 win over Espanyol last weekend and had to be calmed down by his team-mates.
After stating that he felt there was excessive play-acting in the Spanish game, Gravesen has endured several days of criticism and he has decided to respond.
"I do not read the Spanish newspapers," Gravesen told Ekstra Bladet. "The only thing that is important to me is what the club, my team-mates and the coach think and they have all praised and supported me for the way I have been playing.
"I do not understand that they can write what they do, but that is how they are. I am a different type of person. If I see a bald man or one that runs in a gracious manner that does not mean I am going to start saying things to him because I do not have the right.
"We have won nine consecutive games and have started to find our form again. On a personal level things are going well too. I have had problems finding my place, but now I feel that Guti and I understand each other in the middle of the field."
Gravesen was substituted soon after kicking Costa on Saturday and was lucky to escape being sent off after receiving a yellow card earlier in the encounter.
The former Everton midfielder was also filmed launching into a strong challenge on Antonio Cassano in training, leaving other Madrid players looking on in surprise.
