Reina: I feel cheated
Liverpool keeper Jose Reina feels cheated over the red card he received at Chelsea.
Liverpool goalkeeper Jose Reina says he feels cheated for receiving a red card after an altercation with Chelsea's Arjen Robben on Sunday. The former Villarreal custodian was given his marching orders by referee Alan Wiley in the dying stages of Chelsea's 2-0 victory over The Reds at Stamford Bridge.
Spaniard Reina was sent off after shoving his hand in the face of Dutchman winger Robben after being called over by Wiley following his robust challenge outside the box on Blues striker Eidur Gudjohnsen.
Robben dramatically went to ground after taking Reina's hand in his face - thus suggesting that the former PSV Eindhoven player had embellished the incident in order to get Reina in further trouble.
The incident means Reina will likely face a three-match ban for his sending off, but the keeper feels he has been victimised by Robben's antics.
"It is shameful," Reina told The Sun. "I feel pretty cheated, especially if you taken into account the kind of rival we were playing against - they don't need to do that.
"I hope that justice is seen to be done and not only to me.
"I prefer not to say anything more at the moment, in order not to be drawn into any more controversy, but I do want justice to be even-handed in this instance."
Robben, meanwhile, hit back at his critics by suggesting after Sunday's win that it was Reina's fault for getting himself sent off.
"Reina was the one who got carried away, not me," Robben told Dutch television.
"He made a crazy challenge on Eidur over by the touchline and I told him so when he ran past on his way back to the goal.
"I can't remember the exact words I used, but it was something along the lines of 'That was a stupid thing to do, wasn't it?'.
"The next thing I know, he swings round and reacts with his hands.
"I don't know how I can be blamed for that. I wasn't the one who lost control.
I don't think people from Liverpool should be talking about me, either. They should be having a look at themselves."
