Benjani admits Pompey struggles
Benjani Mrawuwari has vowed to begin to justify his club record transfer fee.
Portsmouth's January transfer window signing Benjani Mwaruwari has vowed to justify his club record £4.1 million transfer fee and help save the club from relegation.
Benjani has endured a stop-start initiation to The Premiership with the player only just returning to England after Zimbabwe's African Cup of Nations campaign.
As a result Benjani's form has mirrored that of his ailing club, but the former Auxerre man has backed Pompey's survival fight to start with a daunting test against Manchester United.
"The team have been losing so it has been difficult, but hopefully we will get some wins and things will improve," Benjani told The News.
"I believe the goals are just around the corner and once one comes there will be a lot more.
"Of course we can beat Manchester United - and we have to beat them to pull away from the bottom of the table.
"I have to work hard and together with the rest of the team, that is the most important thing to me. If I score or anyone else scores it doesn't matter. We just need to score.
"I think we will stay in the Premiership if we work as a team and as a squad."
Meanwhile, Brian Priske has revealed his disillusionment with life under Harry Redknapp.
Priske, a summer signing by former Pompey manager Alain Perrin, claims he has not been given an opportunity under Redknapp's new regime.
"Harry is only interested in the players who were here last time he was manager or those he's brought in recently," lamented Priske.
