Teddy confirms Spurs snub

West Ham's Teddy Sheringham has confirmed he rejected the chance to re-join Spurs.

West Ham striker Teddy Sheringham has confirmed he rejected the chance to re-join Tottenham during the January transfer window.

The 39-year-old, who has already made over 100 Premiership starts in two spells with Spurs, was linked with a shock return to White Hart Lane.

West Ham manager Alan Pardew was happy to let Sheringham depart if he wanted a third spell with Tottenham, although the striker was not interested in leaving.

Sheringham, who is the Premiership's oldest outfield player, does not know what the future holds but is enjoying his football with The Hammers.

"There was a chance to go to Tottenham and he (Pardew) said if I really wanted to go he wouldn't stand in my way," Sheringham told Sky Sports News.

"The manager made it quite clear he wanted me to stay here and I'm enjoying playing for West Ham and I want to do it next season as well.

"The grass is not always greener on the other side. The manager is doing a great job, there are a great bunch of players here and I'm getting great job satisfaction day in, day out."

Sheringham turns 40 in April, but the veteran hit-man has no plans to celebrate the occasion.

"People keep saying to me are you going to have a party? Am I hell going to have a party, you don't celebrate being 40 do you?" he added.

"You try and keep it quiet don't you? But I don't know I might do!

"What can you do about it? Just get on with it. I'd prefer to be 22 but I'm not.

"I've had a great career and loved every minute of it. We'll see what happens next."
