Farrell set for Posh deal

Peterborough are set to offer winger David Farrell a new playing contract.

Peterborough United are set to offer a new playing contract to winger David Farrell to ensure that the fans' favourite qualifies for a testimonial at the club.

The 34-year-old's current deal expires at the end of the season but Farrell will have only completed nine seasons with Posh.

If the player agrees to sign a new deal at London Road for another season then he will complete 10 years of loyal service and would be entitled to a lucrative testimonial match.

The skilful wide man was in some of the best form of his career at the start of the season, scoring five goals before suffering a serious shoulder injury.

Posh director Barry Fry has been full of praise for the veteran stalwart.

"I told David at the start of the season that he'd have to play really well to get another contract with us and his response has been first-class," Fry told The Peterborough Evening Telegraph.

"He has given the fans great entertainment over the years.

"But he's also been extremely loyal. He's had the chance to move on several times, but he's settled in Peterborough and he loves the club.

"David has been a great servant to this club and deserves a testimonial."

Fry signed Farrell from Wycombe on a free transfer in the summer of 1997.

Since then, the midfielder has made 385 appearances with a return of 51 goals.

Goalkeeper Mark Tyler has already qualified for a testimonial match and is hoping to attract Chelsea to London Road for his big day.
