Manchester United's Tim Howard has suffered a blow ahead of the World Cup after Kasey Keller was confirmed as USA's number one keeper.Howard has fallen behind Edwin van der Sar as Sir Alex Ferguson's first choice shot-stopper and now looks set to play second fiddle to Keller this summer in Germany.
USA boss Bruce Arena confirmed 36-year-old Keller, who currently plays for Borussia Monchengladbach, is his number one when fit.
"I think, when healthy, Keller is clear our No. 1 goalkeeper," Arena is quoted as saying on paddocktalk.com.
Arena is currently assessing his squad for the World Cup and has hinted those plying their trade in Europe may have the edge on his MLS stars.
"Some of our players that have been in Europe a little bit longer have an edge in experience on some of our domestic players," he continued.
"We have good players domestically and we have good players playing in Europe. On a given day they're equally as competitive with one another."
Arena is also delighted by the recent form of Landon Donovan who is back to his best following an unsuccessful spell with Bayer Leverkusen.
"Landon Donovan has done great. He is a terrific soccer player. He's had an outstanding five or six weeks with us.
"He has rekindled his desire to be a real player and I think he is positioning himself to have a great World Cup."
