Lampard Snr: Best games ever

Frank Lampard Snr says last year's battles were the best games he has ever seen.

Frank Lampard Snr has described last season's titanic battles between Chelsea and Barcelona as the best matches he has ever seen.

The former West Ham defender will be at Stamford Bridge to cheer on his son as Chelsea look to establish a UEFA Champions League first leg lead against the Catalan giants.

Lampard Snr feels Chelsea have dipped in form recently but expects another memorable occasion on Wednesday night, with the action live on Sky Sports 1.

"I think the Barcelona and Chelsea game is probably about the best two games you could put together at this time now," he conveyed to Sky Sports News.

"It's the flair they've got at Barcelona. They can be defending away and Chelsea attacking and, if you turn off at the back for half a second, they get behind you.

"Continental football, foreign football, is different to playing week in, week out in The Premiership.

"Chelsea need to make sure they give no goals away but also go up the other end and put in a couple of goals, hopefully, to give them a cushion to go to Barcelona and it will be a great game out there.

"The two games last year were probably the two best games I've seen."

Lampard Jnr will need to be at his sharpest against Barca but his father believes the midfielder is sometimes wrongly put under the microscope every time he dons a Chelsea shirt.

"The standards are so high that he's set himself over the last two years," explained Lampard Snr. "Chelsea may have waned a little bit in the last three or four games.

"Just not quite as good as they have been, if I'm truthful about it, and maybe with Frank's high standards of play, it gets noticed a little bit more with him.

"He's scored 15-16 goals this season - for any midfielder that's fantastic.

"I think he talks a lot to [Jose] Mourinho, they converse quite a bit, him and John Terry have a good relationship with him.

"They know exactly where they are and what they are doing. They are very professional."
