Worns fuming at omission

Christian Worns has lashed out at Germany boss Jurgen Klinsmann.

Christian Worns has lashed out at Germany boss Jurgen Klinsmann for failing to make his squad for next week's friendly against Italy.

The 33-year-old Borussia Dortmund defender has won 66 caps but will not add to the tally against the Azzurri after being omitted.

"I was told by a journalist on Wednesday morning that I had not been called up and I was amazed," Worns told Spiegel-Online.

"Klinsmann told me later on, but for me there is something very wrong here.

"I am the best German centre back at the moment who is playing regularly and well."

Worns has previously fallen out with Klinsmann, but the two had apparently ironed out their problems following a meeting last October.

Worns, however, now admits that he would seriously consider rejecting a World Cup call-up after Klinsmann's latest snub.

"If things don't work out against Italy, I don't really want to play as a stop-gap solution at my age," he added.

"I'm bitterly disappointed and will need to sleep on this for a few days."
