Brazilian-born midfielder Marcos Senna is determined to play for Spain at the World Cup finals.

Senna has been called into the Spain squad for the first time for next week's friendly against fellow qualifiers Ivory Coast.

During his time with Villarreal, Senna has acquired Spanish citizenship and has been pressing for inclusion in Luis Aragones' squad.

He has now been rewarded with a call-up and he is anxious not to let his adopted nation down.

"I want to do the maximum to fight for a place in the World Cup with Spain," said Senna.

"There is great joy at this moment and now I have to demonstrate my confidence to the coach."

Senna believes that Spain boss Aragones will be getting a player at the peak of his powers for the game with Ivory Coast.

He added: "I have waited for the call and now is the best possible moment in my game.

"Aragones has demanded of me to work to the maximum possible. That is not a problem for me."
