Bart blow for Saints
Southampton keeper Bartosz Bialkowski will be out until September.
Southampton goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski looks set to miss the start of next season after having reconstructive surgery on his knee. The young Polish keeper picked up a nasty knee injury during the FA Cup defeat at Newcastle, and he was ruled out for the rest of the season with ligament damage.
An operation on Saturday confirmed that the injury to his anterior cruciate ligament was that bad that it needed to be rebuilt by surgery.
Bialkowski has also had some cartilage removed as part of the operation and, although there is a slim chance of him returning in August, it is more likely he will be out until September.
The news will be a big blow to Saints boss George Burley who thinks a lot of the 18-year-old, who he had on trial at Hearts when manager at Tynecastle.
Burley immediately brought him down to St Mary's after landing the Southampton job, where he quickly made it into the first team.
Burley also has injury worries over Alexander Ostlund and Kenwyne Jones, but hopes both will be fit for the trip to Crewe.
Ostlund has six stitches in an Achilles wound, while Jones picked up a foot injury against Coventry but X-rays have confirmed there are no broken bones.
