Two in for The Gulls

Torquay have signed Chelsea's Danny Hollands and also brought in Ian Atkins.

Torquay United have signed the captain of Chelsea's reserve team on loan.

Danny Hollands has skippered the reserves for the past two years having progressed through the ranks at Stamford Bridge.

The 20-year-old will now link up with The Gulls in order to give him his first taste of regular first-team action.

United boss John Cornforth will be hoping that the playmaker will be able to inspire his side to climb away from the foot of the table where they currently sit four points from safety.

His bid to steer the club to safety has also been boosted by the news that experienced former Carlisle United boss Ian Atkins has been drafted in as an advisor.

"We are in a dangerous situation and I believe that we need specialist help and Ian fits the bill admirably having dealt with similar situations at other clubs," said Bateson.

"I held a meeting with the players this morning and they unanimously reaffirmed their determination to get us out of trouble and they also support the new appointment.

"I trust that this move plus the addition of new players to the squad will emphasise our determination to do everything possible to retain our Football League status."
