Tugay to shun Asian advances
Blackburn's veteran Turkish midfielder Tugay is set to shun a move to The Middle East.
Blackburn's veteran Turkish midfielder Kerimoglu Tugay is set to shun a move to the Middle East, according to his agent. The 35-year-old is reported to have been offered a lucrative big-money move to Qatar, with his current deal at Ewood Park due to expire this summer.
However, Rovers are keen for Tugay to prolong his five-year stay in Lancashire and a new deal looks imminent.
Tugay's representative Simon Munir confirmed his charge is set to shun the interest from Qatar.
"We're in formal negotiations with Blackburn about a new contract," he said.
"Tugay has an offer to play in Qatar but, although that would be for considerably more money, he would rather finish his career at Blackburn so hopefully we can get things resolved soon.
"It's a case of striking a deal that's right for him and right for the club and I'm confident that will happen shortly."
Tugay moved to Blackburn from Rangers in 2001 and has made nearly 200 appearances for Rovers.
