Drogba unbowed after handball

Didier Drogba admits his second goal against Manchester City was handball.

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba admits his second goal against Manchester City was indepted to a handball, but was largely unrepentant post-match.

In the absence of manager Jose Mourinho, who refused to speak to the press after the 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge, Drogba spoke of the crucial role he played in proceedings.

The Ivory Coast international grabbed a fine first goal on the half hour mark before controlling with his hand and then firing Chelsea's second, just minutes after breaking the deadlock.

City captain Sylvain Distin was so incensed by the actions of Chelsea's controversial hit-man that he got himself sent-off after twice being cautioned for remonstrating to referee Rob Styles.

Drogba, who was also criticised for two pieces of theatrics when 'fouled', was largely unapologetic.

"Yes, it was handball but sometimes this is the game," he said.

"I don't know how to explain. The ball comes to me and I can't do nothing but this.

"Okay, so take off the goal I scored."

Drogba continued to reveal that he felt the win would put added pressure on Manchester United, trailing in second place in the table, with Sir Alex Ferguson's side to play Birmingham on Sunday.

"We are very happy to win because Manchester United are playing tomorrow so it is good to put pressure on them," he told Sky Sports News.

"Two consecutive victories at home is good."
