Messina move for Ventura

Messina have named Giampiero Ventura as their new manager.

Ventura replaces Bortolo Mutti at the helm of the Serie A strugglers following his sacking on Monday.

Messina are battling to avoid relegation and last weekend's draw with fellow strugglers Udinese was the last straw for the club's officials.

Former Udinese and Cagliari boss Ventura remains confident that he can guide Messina to safety in Serie A.

"Unfortunately, I don't have a magic wand, but I am well aware of the potential of this squad and I believe they have everything that is needed to survive in Serie A," said Ventura.

"The lads certainly don't lack the desire to do the job."
