Ascoli coach suspended
Marco Giampaolo has revealed his disappointment after being suspended.
Ascoli coach Marco Giampaolo has revealed his disappointment after he was suspended for the remainder of the season.
The Italian football federation ruled that Giampaolo was not qualified to coach in Serie A.
Ascoli claimed Giampaolo was the assistant to Massimo Silva, however Italian officials ruled that the set-up hid that Giampaolo was the 'de facto' head coach.
The federation's technical section had monitored Giampaolo's behaviour on the touchline during recent matches and deemed that he was in charge of the team and not Silva.
The shock revelation comes as a major blow to Ascoli who have risen to 11th in their first season since promotion last summer but Giampaolo admits he has no choice but to accept the sanction.
"I accept the sentence but I am disappointed to have to end this season in such a manner," said Giampaolo.
"Myself and Massimo will continue to work as we have been doing during the week and then on Sunday it will be he, the coach, who will go on the bench."
