Ajax have rewarded teenage star Urby Emanuelson for his efforts this term with a bumper new deal.

The 19-year-old was not expected to figure prominently in Danny Blind's thinking this term and was even tipped to move on loan, but he shone during pre-season and was given his head by the Ajax chief.

Emanuelson did not disappoint and a series of impressive displays prompted the board to hand him a new deal.

The left back's previous contract was due to expire in 2008, buy he is now tied to the Amsterdam titans until the summer of 2011.

"It's good to see that a player from our own youth academy is developing so well," said Ajax technical director Martin van Geel.

"Urby has proved to be of big value for the squad.

"Out of this contract extension it shows that both parties have trust in the future."
