Itandje staying with Lens

Lens goalkeeper Charles Itandje has rejected rumours that he could leave.

Lens goalkeeper Charles Itandje has rejected rumours that he could leave the club in the summer.

The 23-year-old has been linked with several moves away from the club, with some interest supposedly coming from England.

Tottenham and Liverpool were thought to be interested a couple of years ago, while Marseille were keen on him last year.

Itandje saved a penalty in Lens' 1-0 win against Metz at the weekend to underline his credentials, but he says he will remain at the Sang-et-Or, with two years left on his deal.

"There are two years remaining on my contract," Itandje told L'Equipe. "Logically I should stay at Lens at least until 2008.

"Going to a very big club is a dream for any player, but to leave I need to find a club that could offer me more important objectives than Lens.

"In France, except Lyon, no team that plays in the Champions League is bigger than Lens. I won't leave for just anywhere.

"Leaving to go to sleep in a club where I would be bored is not possible for me. I also think about the financial aspect, that is why I am a professional too."

Itandje also harbours hopes of making the France squad for this summer's World Cup, and believes he stands a chance of going to Germany.

"Barthez and Coupet are the two best keepers in France.

"Then, there is one place remaining which a lot of players could ask for.

"I still have faith because I work a lot to be the best possible and I am still young."
