Olisadebe expects Poland snub

Emanuel Olisadebe has given up hope of a place in Poland's World Cup squad.

Portsmouth striker Emanuel Olisadebe has given up hope of a place in Poland's World Cup squad.

The 27-year-old was an integral member of the Poland team four years ago, scoring more goals than any other European in qualification for Japan and Korea.

However, the Nigerian-born forward has struggled for form and fitness in the last couple of seasons, and has yet to start a Premiership game for Pompey since arriving on the South Coast in January.

Despite several call-ups, Olisadebe has played just twice for his national team in the last three years. He now believes that his lack of regular football at club level has cost him his last chance of representing his country in Germany this summer.

"I've stopped dreaming about the finals," he told Polish tabloid Fakt. "It's straightforward - I know that I'm not going to Germany.

"I thought I could make it if I played in the English league, but I haven't even had the chance."

With Harry Redknapp's men currently on a three-match winning run and still fighting for Premiership survival, it seems unlikely that Olisadebe will be handed too many opportunities in the last few games of the season.
