Worthy stands up for Green
Norwich manager Nigel Worthington has defended under-fire keeper Robert Green.
Norwich manager Nigel Worthington has defended Robert Green following his angry gesture towards fans in the game against Leicester on Saturday.
The goalkeeper was mocked by a section of the home support after deciding to kick the ball long rather than play it short, prompting the 26-year-old to respond in aggressive fashion.
Green has since suggested that Carrow Road can sometimes lack atmosphere, and urged the fans to get behind their team more.
Worthington has refused to criticise his number one, preferring instead to try and justify what he did on the pitch.
"It's the goalkeeper's decision - and it's not an easy one," Worthington told the Eastern Daily Press.
"There are a lot of things that are going to be going through your mind and you've got just six seconds to make your decision once the ball is in your hands.
"Who's available? Who's free to receive the ball? And if there's an opposition player marking him, then he's got to kick it - it's as simple as that."
