Javier Chevanton is determined to repay Monaco's faith by staying at Stade Louis II.

The Uruguayan striker has been linked with a departure from Monaco in the summer following an injury-hit season.

Chevanton had enjoyed an impressive debut campaign in the Principality after joining in a big-money move from Lecce in 2004.

He has put his injury troubles behind him of late to recapture his best form and he is now anxious to stay with Monaco.

"To me, it is important to score," said Chevanton. "Now I am fine physically, so it is logical it pays off.

"My future? At first, it depends on my officials. Me, I would rather stay.

"Two years ago I came with the status of an important player, and honestly I don't feel I could give back what the club gave me.

"It would annoy me to leave now.

"I know there are still people who believe in me and they are right."

To further enhance his stock with Monaco, Chevanton scored the only goal in Saturday's derby success over rivals Marseille.
