Quashie confident of escape

West Brom midfielder Nigel Quashie is confident Bryan Robson's side will beat the drop.

West Brom midfielder Nigel Quashie is confident Bryan Robson's side will beat the drop.

The Scotland international was a major casuality of The Baggies' great escape last season, as he was part of the Southampton side that was relegated on the final day of the campaign.

He concedes that he had written West Brom off as relegation certainties but having underestimated their resilience last term, he will not be making the same mistake this time around.

Quashie's career thus far at The Hawthorns has been a stop-start affair following a five-game suspension for his red card against Middlesbrough but set to return on Sunday against Villa, the combative midfielder is raring to prove his worth.

''I was at Southampton last year and I honestly thought West Brom were dead and buried,'' said Quashie.

''They proved everyone wrong, including me and I think the lads will do it again this year.

''There are better lads here than at Southampton last year. I know, I have been at both clubs.

''I am not just saying that because I am at Albion. Now I can see why West Brom did it 12 months ago.''
