Bayern Munich midfielder Martin Demichelis admits he is sweating on his place in Argentina's World Cup squad. The 25-year-old has been in fine form for Bayern this term and is now one of the first names on the team-sheet at the Allianz Arena.
With World Cup fever sweeping Germany the South American concedes his mind is wandering towards this summer's showpiece and whether he will get the nod for a place in Argentina's final cut.
He claims the matter is constantly on his mind but insists being part of Bayern team with so many other international players in the same boat is helping him to cope.
"Over here they're talking about the World Cup on the streets, on the television, in the newspapers, everywhere! All the adverts are about Germany 2006 as well," Demichelis told Ole.
"To avoid it I am focusing myself on Bayern Munich and I am with a host of players who are all fighting for a place in their country's squad.
"I won't lie, it creates an anxiety it's difficult to control, but at the same time it's a great motivation.
"We (the Bayern players) don't really get involved in specific questions about who is going to be there, but no player is relaxing because no-one's place is assured.
"I think I have every chance of making the Argentina squad, but in football you never know.
"Right now I am fighting for a place which would be magical for me.
"The good thing for me is that I can play as a holding midfielder or also drop back to play as a central defender."
