Cech feared leg was broken
Petr Cech feared he had broken his leg after being trod on by William Gallas.
Petr Cech feared he had broken his leg after being trod on by William Gallas, but he could be fit for Chelsea's FA Cup semi-final against Liverpool.
The Czech goalkeeper required 10 stitches in a wound in his leg following the accidental collision during The Blues' 3-0 win over Everton on Monday.
The incident occurred 10 minutes before half time, with Cech carrying on until the break before being replaced by Carlo Cudicini.
Cech momentarily thought he had suffered a serious injury, but is relieved that he is unlikely to miss any games for the champions-elect.
"I went for the ball and I felt the pain and at first I thought my leg was broken," Cech told the club's official website.
"But fortunately after that, I was able to stand up.
"I had quite a big cut on my leg and I had 10 stitches. It was painful, but there is nothing serious, so it is good news for me.
"Everyone is positive about it and I think I will be ready for the next game."
Blues boss Jose Mourinho expanded on the nature of Cech's injury and also expressed his relief that the shot-stopper was not seriously hurt.
Mourinho told Chelsea TV: "There are some holes in the knee and the leg, a lot of blood and it is quite scary, but I believe the knee structure - that is the most important thing - is okay."
While Cech is confident of being available for Saturday's semi-final showdown at Old Trafford, he admits he is not guaranteed his place.
Cudicini has started in goal in the previous rounds and Cech would have no qualms if the Italian lines up against Liverpool.
Cech continued: "It is the manager's decision and whether it is me or Carlo, we will be strong enough.
"Carlo has been doing brilliantly well and with him in goal we have reached the semi-final.
"Now we must make sure we make the final."
