Gorman takes leave

Wycombe boss John Gorman has been placed on compassionate leave.

Wycombe Wanderers boss John Gorman has had his request to be placed on compassionate leave reluctantly accepted by the club's board.

The former Swindon Town and Gillingham boss has taken a step back from his role with the League Two club following the recent passing of his wife Myra to cancer.

The Scot made a quick return to his position with The Chairboys following her death, but he has now decided to take some time away from football in order to deal with personal and family issues.

"The club have reluctantly accepted John's wishes, in that the change in his family and personal circumstances brought about by the recent passing of his wife Myra, mean that he feels he is unable at this time to correctly lead and motivate the team and continue in the role of football manager for Wycombe Wanderers FC," read a statement on the club's official website.

"As a result, the board support John in allowing him to step back from his day-to-day involvement with the team and focus his time and emotions on his home and family.

"John plans to resume his full time duties with Wycombe Wanderers Football Club before the start of the new season."

Chairboys assistant manager Steve Brown will take caretaker charge of the Buckinghamshire outfit, with Keith Ryan and Terry Evans assisting him in the season run-in.

Brown has plenty of work to do, as Wycombe's promotion charge has suffered from a poor run of form that has seen just two wins in their last nine matches.

The run has left them nine points adrift of the automatic promotion places and facing the likelihood of having to earn promotion through the play-offs next month.

Meanwhile, defender Stuart Nethercott has extended his loan at Nationwide Conference club Woking until May 14.

Nethercott has spent the season with Woking and will be staying through the the middle of next month.
