Chris brassed off

Chris Brass has revealed he broke his nose when scoring a comical own goal.

Chris Brass has revealed he broke his nose when scoring the comical own goal in Saturday's 3-2 win at Darlington.

The former York City player-manager was guilty of a classic moment when hooking an attempted clearance into his own face and seeing the ball rebound past on-loan keeper Kasper Schmeichel.

The eighth minute gaffe did not cost Bury too much as Matthew Tipton scored an injury time winner to clinch a dramatic away triumph.

"I think the thankful thing is we actually got the result," he told Sky Sports News.

"I can laugh about it but I had an untold weekend of ribbing about it, including 'Kammy' [Sky Sports pundit Chris Kamara], who started it on Sunday morning.

"You can't practise that! When it happened, I truly didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

"Some of our players have said they were laughing. It's bizarre in such a situation where you can't do [that].

"Thankfully, we've got the three points and it's taken us a long way towards safety.

"It's the first time I've seen it, just then, and I can't explain it. I really can't.

"I couldn't have hit it any sweeter and the unfortunate issue is it broke my nose again to boot!"
