GENNARO GATUSSO PLAYER PROFILE

Educated in the school of hardknocks, Gennarro Gattusso is a 28-year-old hardman who learned his trade at Rangers, under former boss Walter Smith.

"He is, however, an unselfish player and does what is in his style on the field."Carlo Ancelotti

Gattusso signed for Glasgow Rangers in 1997 on a bosman free, aged 19, after making only a handful of appearances for AC Perugia. Under Smith, Gattusso made fourty appearances and was moulded into the gritty, tough and agressive player he is loved for today.

After Advocaat took over, Gatusso fell out of favour, being played out of position at right back. He was then sold to Salernitana for £3 millon, in July 1997.

His performances for the newly promoted Salernitana earned him an £8 millon move to Milan, where he quickly become a fan's favourite in the glamourous Milan squad, making 22 appearances in his first season.

The Milan of recent times have enjoyed unrivalled success, and Gatusso has picked up a Scudetto, Coppa Italia and Champions League Winners Medal.

Gattusso has been openly heard quoting his dream to play for Manchester United, and could fit the bill for Sir Alex Ferguson's shopping list.

Internationally, Gatusso was selected in the u21 squad who won the u21 european championship in 2000. He has also played in the 2000 olympics, 2002 world cup, and 2004 european championships.

This midfield dynamo provides the liscence to roam for Milan and Italy's more attack minded midfielders with his workrate and defensive disciplines, and is a key part of the first team.
