Degen claims Spurs interest

Philipp Degen has confirmed reports that Spurs have been scouting his progress.

Borussia Dortmund defender Philipp Degen has confirmed reports that Tottenham have been scouting his progress in Germany.

The Switzerland international will take part in this summer's World Cup finals and has adapted well to life in Die Bundesliga after arriving from Basel.

German sources claim Spurs have posted representatives at Dortmund's games and the right back admits he is a fan of Premiership football.

"Yes, there were people here from England," he told Nachrichten, when quizzed on Spurs' rumoured presence at the Westfalenstadion.

"There is interest.

"But I have a contract with BVB until 2008.

"I saw Arsenal play against Villarreal and I must say that this fast [English-style] football excites me.

"But I have a contract here in Dortmund and, actually, I feel very well."

Degen is in a positive frame of mind ahead of the World Cup finals in Germany.

"We do not go to the World Cup just to be part of it," he explained. "We want to at least make the last sixteen.

"Our advantage is we don't fear any opponents.

"The World Cup is, for us, a kind of free shot. If we do well - super. If not, we know this for sure - this young team will make a big impression in the 2008 European Championship."

Spurs have also been linked with Wigan's Pascal Chimbonda in tabloid reports on Tuesday morning.

"We never comment on speculation," a Spurs spokesman told skysports.com.
