Coupet's World Cup desire

Gregory Coupet has admitted he will be disappointed if he is not France's number one.

Gregory Coupet has admitted he will be hugely disappointed if he is not France's number one keeper at the World Cup finals.

The 33-year-old is battling with Fabien Barthez for the number one spot and France coach Raymond Domenech is playing his cards close to his chest.

Coupet has proved his class once again with Lyon this term and was voted the top keeper in France for the fourth successive season by the professional footballers union (UNFP).

Coupet was pleased to land the accolade once again and has set his sights on being France's number one.

"I am very, very proud of that reward," said Coupet. "The icing on the cake would be to become a first-team member during the World Cup.

"It is an obsession. If I am not, obviously I will need some time to cheer up.

"I prefer to not think about it as it could be so traumatic."

Juninho was named Player of the Year, but Lyon missed out on a clean sweep as Lille's Claude Puel scooped the Manager of the Year accolade.
