Cristiano Ronaldo's cool finish earned Manchester United a 1-0 win over Celtic in Roy Keane's testimonial.
Keane, an Old Trafford legend, played a half for each side in his testimonial which attracted a near 70,000 crowd.
The early stages of the game were dictated by United, with Artur Boruc saving from Louis Saha and then Ronaldo, after the Portuguese winger had also dragged a shot wide.
Celtic keeper Boruc then produced a marvellous reaction stop to keep out Giuseppe Rossi's close-range effort after a cross from Ryan Giggs.
The Scottish champions gradually came into the friendly, with Shaun Maloney's curling free kick smartly beaten away by Tim Howard.
Keane was just off target with a fiercely-struck drive from distance, while Boruc spilled a dipping free kick from Ronaldo.
The second half saw Keane emerge from the tunnel in his familiar red shirt and he quickly slotted back into the centre of United's midfield.
The only goal arrived 10 minutes into the second half when Ronaldo raced on to a wonderful through ball from Giggs to roll his shot between the legs of Boruc.
Celtic responded with Stanislav Varga lashing over the bar from Dion Dublin's knock-down and the former Manchester United striker then saw his header superbly turned on to the bar by Edwin van der Sar.
United hit their opponents on the counter attack, with Boruc saving from Ronaldo at the near post as the second half possessed a greater tempo.
Ronaldo had a second goal disallowed 10 minutes from time when he was adjudged to be offside when tapping in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's centre.
The visiting side could have snared an equaliser when a penetrating run from Stephen Pearson saw the midfielder tee up Dublin, but the veteran striker steered his shot wide.
Dublin, though, did come to Celtic's aid in his own area when he hacked Gary Neville's shot off the line in the final action of the game.
