Philip Cocu profile

Born in Eindhoven in 1970, Cocu started his career with AZ Alkmaar, before moving on to Vitesse Arnhem, PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona and then back to PSV in 2004.

Midfield is Cocu's preferred position, but he has operated with distinction in a host of roles throughout his career.

Cocu stands at just under six feet, but he is fearsome in the air and fearless in the tackle.

Consistency is a word which springs to mind when discussing Cocu and his style allows the more flamboyant midfielders in Marco van Basten's squad to express themselves.

Cocu is closing in on a hundred caps and a decent run at the summer's finals could see the veteran pass the century mark.
