Le Guen lays down the law

Rangers boss Paul Le Guen wants to keep Peter Lovenkrands, but stresses he has limits.

Rangers boss Paul Le Guen wants to keep forward Peter Lovenkrands, but stresses there are limits to his patience.

The 26-year-old Danish international was the club's second top scorer in all competitions this season, with 18 goals, four coming from Rangers' foray in the UEFA Champions League.

But the pacey player has stalled on a new deal and has been linked with a lucrative European move, a fact Le Guen is well aware of.

"Lovenkrands is a player I would like to keep but there are limits. It depends on his decision," the coach told Rangers News.

"Rangers had a great season in the Champions League and yes I watched his goals.

"It's up to him now, I understand he has been offered a very good contract."

The new Light Blue boss has revealed he has done his homework on the team, but did not want to step on former manager Alex McLeish's toes, before taking over.

"I did not want to go to the stadium while Alex was in charge, so I have watched all of the matches on DVD," he commented.

"Of course I know Julien Rodriguez and Dado Prso very well. When I was coach of Lyon we used to play against Monaco, so I know these players very well.

"I look forward to working with them. I hope they are happy with Rangers and I hope they are ready to stay with Rangers and work with me," he said.

Le Guen's main task for next season will be to capture some silverware, preferably by winning the Scottish Premier League title back from arch-rivals Celtic.
