Mjallby calls it a day

Former Celtic defender Johan Mjallby has decided to hang up his boots.

Former Sweden international and Celtic defender Johan Mjallby has decided to hang up his boots.

The 35-year-old has been plagued by serious knee injuries for a number of years and has been restricted to just one appearance this season for AIK Stockholm.

The defender, who was capped 49 times by Sweden, won titles with AIK and Celtic and admits the time is right to bring the curtain down on his career.

"It is time to stop harming the body." Mjallby told Expressen. "It feels reasonable now to let the body start healing.

"The highlight was when we won the treble with Celtic, that was fantastic and I also got to realise my dream of finishing my career at AIK."
