Newby looking for a League club

Jon Newby wants to stay in The Football League, despite having been released by Bury.

Striker Jon Newby is determined to stay within The Football League, despite having been released by League Two side Bury.

The 27-year-old ended his second two-season spell with The Shakers, after making just 10 appearances this season.

Coach Chris Casper loaned the front-man to Conference side Kidderminster Harriers before letting him go, but Newby wants to retain his status as a League footballer.

"I've had some interest from a couple of non-league clubs in the area but having played in the league for six or seven years that's where I want to stay, although I'm not ruling anything out," he commented.

"I'd love to go back and watch them. My first spell at Bury was fantastic and obviously the injuries didn't help and then the form of the likes of David Nugent in my second spell.

"Injury kept me out for six months or so, but what was a little bit disappointing was that when I got back fit I didn't really get a chance to stake my claim," he said.

No matter where he goes Newby will be hoping his injury-ravaged fortunes will turn around, and he will be able to play regular first-team football next season.
