Gunners confirm Rosicky deal

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Tomas Rosicky.

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Czech Republic international midfielder Tomas Rosicky from Borussia Dortmund.

The 25-year-old joins Arsene Wenger's side on a long-term contract after completing his move to The Gunners for an undisclosed fee on Monday.

Though no details were revealed as regards to the transfer fee, the deal is thought to be worth at least £6.8 million, which was the figure that would have activated a clause in his Dortmund contract.

The former Sparta Prague player was widely tipped for a move to Spain with Atletico Madrid before a deal fell through this week.

Rosicky, who left the Czech Republic's World Cup camp in Austria to complete the move to The Emirates Stadium, is thought to be a replacement for out-of contract Robert Pires, who is in line for a move to Villarreal.

In securing the deal for Rosicky, Wenger was delighted to have to have acquired a player of some pedigree for next season.

"We are delighted to welcome Tomas to our squad," Wenger told Arsenal's official website.

"He has great technique, skill on the ball and sharp passing.

"Tomas has good experience at all levels for club and country, and we look forward to welcoming him to Arsenal after what will hopefully be a successful summer for him at the World Cup."

Rosicky himself expressed his delight at completing a move to English football with one of the Premiership giants.

"I'm really happy to be here at Arsenal, it is a great day for me," he said.

"The team showed its strength recently in the Champions League and it has big potential with a lot of young players, I think we can be even better next season.

"This is the best club in Europe and I will give everything for Arsenal."
