Shearer working on badges

Alan Shearer claims it is too early to say if he will make the move into management.

Former England captain Shearer called time on his illustrious playing career at the end of last season and management is an obvious move for a player afforded such respect within the game.

Shearer has already dismissed the possibility of aiding Glenn Roeder at Newcastle next term, but he is opening the door to coaching in the future by securing the required Licences.

"Whether I go into management or not, I feel you are better off having them than not having them," he told Sky Sports News. "If you ever need them they will come in handy.

"But with regards to coaching or management, I really couldn't tell you.

"I am just here to get them done if I need them.

"I have been doing the coaching with Tommy (Newcastle assistant Craig) for the last 12 months and this is the first part of the residential course.

"I have my B Licence, this is the A Licence and then it is the Pro Licence after that."

Rather than enrolling at Lilleshall, Shearer has headed north of the border to study in Glasgow.

SFA official Jim Sinclair is delighted to welcome the Newcastle legend to Scotland.

"It is unusual getting someone as high profile as Alan from another country, but it is great to have him and we will see how he does," said Sinclair.
