Van wants World Cup glory

Edwin van der Sar has revealed he would give up everything to win the World Cup.

Holland goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has revealed he would give up everything to win the World Cup.

The Manchester United custodian has enjoyed a glittering career for club and country winning countless honours.

However, the former Ajax and Juventus man insists winning the World Cup would surpass all his achievements.

"I would give back all the honours I've won in my club career in exchange for winning the World Cup. That's how much it means to me," said van der Sar.

"I've won the Champions League Final and a few other prizes, but I would happily swap them for a World Cup winners' medal."

Van der Sar was in the Holland side that lost to Brazil on penalties in the semi-finals in 1998 and he admitted defeat was hard to take.

"The best thing was the game itself between two good teams with quality players," added van der Sar.

"But being so close to playing in a World Cup Final and to lose on penalties was very hard."
