Nakata slams shambolic Japan

Hidetoshi Nakata has issued a vitriolic riposte in the direction of his Japan team-mates.

Hidetoshi Nakata has issued a vitriolic riposte in the direction of his Japan team-mates just a week before their crucial World Cup opener against Australia.

The 29-year-old midfielder, who spent last term on-loan at Bolton, was left fuming after his side's disappointing 1-0 win over Malta in their final warm-up game on Sunday.

Nataka believes the current atmosphere in Japan's camp lacks genuine spirit, of the opinion that Zico's side are simply not ready to ply their trade on the world's biggest stage.

"We got nothing from the game," lamented Nakata.

"It doesn't matter what sort of football you play - unless you run and work for each other it's pointless. Those are basic things."

Nakata continued to suggest Japan's preparations have been ''too friendly'', as he strikes to create a winning mentality amongst the Asian underdogs in preparation for Germany.

"We're hardly at the stage where we can suddenly change things," he added.

"What we're missing is the heart."

Nakata, still rated as Japan's leading player, has courted controversy in the past after various spats with former coach Philippe Troussier and it seems he is now less than enamoured with current incumbent Zico.
