Wayne Rooney's bid to overcome a broken metatarsal appears to be on track after the Manchester United striker took part in light training on Tuesday morning.A nation waits on tenterhooks with regards the player's fitness, with a scan on Wednesday finally set to end speculation about whether Rooney will be fit to play in Germany.
If he is deemed not ready then Jermain Defoe will step-in, before Friday's deadline, but the early signs are looking extremely positive.
Rooney looked in goods spirits when training with his team-mates, under the watchful eye of Sven Goran Eriksson, and when coupled with the pictures of him attempting a bicycle-kick on Monday - it does seem to bode well.
If Rooney is indeed given the nod to partake in this summer's showpiece then he will almost certainly sit-out England's opener against Paraguay on June 10, but he would perhaps be vying to play some part in his country's next two group games against Trinidad & Tobago and Sweden respectively.
As yet, Rooney has suffered no ill effects and when put through his paces looked fit and sharp, as he bids to overcome any lingering doubts about his overall fitness.
