Benjani makes Pompey pledge
Benjani Mwaruwari has dismissed reports linking him with an exit from Portsmouth.
Portsmouth striker Benjani Mwaruwari has dismissed reports linking him with a move back to France's Ligue 1.The South Coast club's record signing scored just one goal after his transfer from Auxerre in January, but it was a crucial strike against Wigan which greatly aided their battle to avoid the drop.
Although Benjani all too rarely found the net, he impressed with his work rate at Fratton Park and was a popular figure as Harry Redknapp orchestrated the club's survival.
After reports in Zimbabwe that linked the striker with a move to both Marseille and Nice, Benjani has now declared he will remain with Pompey next season.
"Those reports are not true," Benjani told Kick Off.
"In my contract there was a provision that I would return to France if Portsmouth were relegated, but this was not the case and I am still with Portsmouth.
"I will be going back early next month."
