Yorke has Fergie backing
T&T ace Dwight Yorke has revealed Sir Alex Ferguson is desperate for England to lose.
Trinidad & Tobago ace Dwight Yorke has revealed former boss Sir Alex Ferguson is desperate for England to slip up against the Soca Warriors. The Three Lions can advance to the knock-out stages of the World Cup with success against the international minnows on Thursday.
However, Scottish tactician Ferguson, who coached Yorke during his days with Manchester United, wants T&T to cause yet another World Cup surprise.
"Everyone from Scotland, including Sir Alex, made it clear they want us to do well against England," explained Yorke.
"If we do get the result we are all hoping for then I'm sure he'll be on the phone the next day."
Yorke has also reserved special praise for Ferguson for helping his adapt to his new midfield role.
The striker spent six weeks with United prior to the World Cup and this helped him shine in their opening draw with Sweden, when he played a more reserved role.
"If I model myself on anybody, it's Paul Scholes," he added. "I had six weeks at United working on this, improving my defensive attributes.
"I can't thank Sir Alex and his staff enough. They made me feel as if I was one of their players again."
Meanwhile, Yorke believes Ferguson will be happy for Wayne Rooney to feature in Thursday's clash despite fears over his fitness.
The Manchester United ace has only just returned to full training and The Red Devils are wary of him playing in the group stage of the tournament.
"I think he would be positive. I'm sure he'll be notified before that happens, as he's a Manchester United player," he added on Sky Sports News.
"But I'm sure he'll be happy for him. He has to be 100 percent before he plays.
"I don't think England or anyone would risk any of their players if they are not 100 percent."
